Stand Up Like Richard feat. Vic Mensa, vu par @svetchassol, out now everywhere 🎟️🎤

Funny How? se dessinerait presque en ode brute à Chicago.
La porosité entre, la ville du vent, le stand-up, et la pratique harmonique de Chass, parait violente tant ces trois entités s’entrechoquent, s’entremêlent naturellement mais avec force. Entrer en dialogue avec Vic dès les premières écritures de Funny How? pour finalement l’avoir sur ce pont menant Richard Pryor à Magma, permet à mon sens d’affirmer une identité radicalement Chicagoenne, et donc intrinsèquement indiscutablement noire. Il vient manifester l’héritage prolétarien, hamptonien, drillien, doubout’ien, révolutionnaire de celle que l’on surnomme aussi Paris sur la Prairie et dont le chaos demeure indomptable, intouchable. Continuellement dégoulinant entre les fissures de nos mains et continuant d’éclabousser le monde par son grandiose. To live and die in Chicago. Merci Chi-Town 🖤

Funny How? almost takes shape as a raw hymn to Chicago
The porous bond between the Windy City, stand-up, and Chassol’s harmonic language feels striking, almost brutal, in the way these three forces collide, overlap, and fuse together so naturally, yet with such power.

To enter into dialogue with Vic Mensa from the earliest writings of Funny How?, and ultimately have him standing on this bridge bringing Richard Prior to Magma, is, to me, a way of asserting an identity that is radically Chicagoan and therefore intrinsically, unmistakably Black.

It embodies the city’s Proletarian, Hamptonian, Drillian, Doubout’ian and revolutionary inheritance, the city also known as Paris on the Prairie, whose chaos remains untamable, untouchable; forever slipping through the cracks of our hands, yet still splashing the world with its grandeur.

To live and die in Chicago.
