His Body (Official music video ) GUY PEARCE
Guy Pearce has released the fifth music video from his second album, The Nomad, a collection of deeply personal, original songs, written in the wake of his marriage breakup and subsequently finding a new life after the birth of his first child.
The latest clip is for the track, “His Body”, which, as Guy describes, “… is a song about falling apart - about the failing of one’s emotional and physical self. It also takes in our identity and how that can become lost or displaced.
“I wanted, in the video to look at the question of how we identify ourselves and how precarious that can be, particularly if we fall into traps like substance abuse.
“Kerry Brown did a fantastic job creating this clip and helping me realise a variety of alter-egos that were surfacing for me during a pretty difficult time - a time a few years ago when I didn’t handle things that well.
“Thankfully I was able to eventually pull myself together. I’m aware that others aren’t so fortunate.
“A big Thank You to Kerry for directing this cryptic and obtuse story, and of course a big thank you to our Prague crew that ran around like mad with us for a couple of days. It was great fun!”

Leaving Home (Guy Pearce) - Official Music Video
LEAVING HOME was kind of the first song I wrote for my album THE NOMAD back in 2015. I was in a bit of shock when my marriage ended earlier that year and this song reflects that disbelief.
Facing this new reality was strange and difficult and yet I realise it happens to many people all the time.
When I spoke with Zac about doing a clip, his idea was to incorporate other people's experiences of losing relationships and treat mine as just a part of the bigger picture ... still for it to remain personal for me but not to have all the focus on me.
I really liked Zac’s idea of setting this in a bar where we see a collection of random people having very different but similarly painful experiences. We never really know when we meet someone what’s going on for them personally. We also never know what’s going to appear round the next corner. - Guy Pearce, 2019.

Guy Pearce - "Truth" music video
Guy Pearce has collaborated with Melbourne-based filmmaker Tim White for a second time, delivering a smart, sophisticated new music video for “Truth”, taken from Pearce’s recently released second album, “The Nomad”.
Two-time nominee of the Cannes Young Director Award (2013 and 2014) and ARIA Best Music Video Award (2017), White’s first effort with Pearce was the quirky, comical clip for “Fly All The Way”, taken from the actor’s debut album in 2014, “Broken Bones”.
Says Pearce, “After all the fun we had making the video for 'Fly all the Way’ Tim White and I became fast friends and I knew I wanted to work with him again.
“'Truth' was the song Tim responded to from this latest album, which made sense really because of its off-beat vibe … it’s much less earnest and melancholic than the rest of the songs on 'The Nomad’.
“We wanted to keep the clip simple and certainly not as nutty as ‘Fly’, and so Tim had the idea of a 'single shot' performance piece incorporating a small choir. We then decided we wanted a costume change so we settled on two shots instead.
“There were a lot of moving parts and so each shot took a bit to rehearse and perfect. I think we did 15 to 20 takes of each, all on one day at Docklands Studios in Melbourne. Camera movement, lighting changes, choreography and of course my performance all needed to synchronise in order to successfully present the song properly.
“Tim’s pretty much a perfectionist, which I love of course. As much as I like VFX, it’s very cool to capture everything on camera and Tim wasn’t going to let us off without it being right.
“I hope you like it!”
Says White, “I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to create another music video with Guy (especially after the wackiness of our previous effort for ‘Fly All the Way’). He’s an amazing collaborator and so supportive and trusting of my ideas.
“We wanted ‘Truth’ to be more of a stripped back performance clip, revealing Guy as the rock star he’s perhaps not best known as.
“Though there’s only two shots in this video, there were a lot of moving parts and complicated elements at play; there are over 400 lighting cues that were mostly pre-programmed and synced to the track by lighting designer Andre Vanderwert (whom I made one of my earliest music videos with). The camera was mounted on this amazing Frankenstein of a dolly by grips Dan Mitton and Dane Clarke, and choreographed to move fluidly around the Docklands Studios space by cinematographer extraordinaire Ed Goldner (my first time working with these guys).
“Another first time collaboration was with stylist Eugyeene The, who did a brilliant job of dressing Guy as the suave rock-dog he was born to be.
“We managed to pull together an absolute dream team of a crew, most of whom I’ve worked with many times before: legendary producers Jamie Houge and Ruth Morris are frequent collaborators of mine, as are my favourite 1st AD Robbie McEwan, 1st AC Austin Haigh, Gaffer Tom Savige and the gorgeous Dan Stonehouse & Gabe Russo at Crayon. I even managed to cast my entire family in our little background choir!
“Working with Guy is a total dream - he brings an infectious level of passion and professionalism to set and an incredibly rare honesty and earnestness to his music.”

"What Makes You Think" - Guy Pearce
The second music video from Guy Pearce's second album, "The Nomad".
Says Guy, "This song is about searching, as well as fending off the projections of others. In the clip I wanted to wander as a solitary figure without the presence of anybody else, only through nature and old man made places.
"Even though he settles for a while at a random piano, offering itself as a poetic and expressive tool, our character’s destiny will still only be to find answers within himself.
"I wanted the entire clip to feel languid and melancholic but also beautiful. Getting to use Max Walter as our DP enabled such a style. He’s brilliant. And directing this in conjunction with Michael Shanks and the team at Late Nite films made it a wonderful two day experience, including trying to work out how to get a lovely 100 year old Estey Piano from Kynton to a paddock in Little River. I’m pleased to say that piano is now being fully restored. I’m very proud of this clip as I think it perfectly suits what is one of my favourite songs on the album."

THE NOMAD by Guy Pearce - music video
The title track of Guy Pearce's second album, directed by Brown and filmed on location just outside of Prague.
Says Guy, "It was fantastic to work with Kerry Brown again. I first worked with Kerry in 2004 when he was our photographer on The Proposition, and then again in 2011 on Prometheus, as well as a couple of other films in between.
"This time though, it was as my director on this video for 'The Nomad' - the first song off my new album of the same name.
"This was an idea Kerry had while we were also shooting a much longer and more detailed clip, also for the same song.
"Here, Kerry wanted to see a raw, almost live performance of the song ... a ‘teaser’, if you will.
"The idea came to him while we were a couple of hours outside Prague scouting this disused factory location. It’s an ominous place that’s equally as beautiful as it is strange.
"To find me here with nothing but an old chair and acoustic guitar I think gives the video a spontaneous feeling that avoids all the tricks of modern film making. The song has a desolate feel to it, as does this clip."
The Nomad by Guy Pearce will be available worldwide on digital platforms on July 6, with CDs and vinyl available internationally through www.guypearce.net, and all good music retailers in Australia. -
Broken Bones - Guy Pearce
After working with Michael Shanks on my video for ‘Storm’ and ‘I Can Be Some Good’ (which will be the final video for this album) as well as his web series ‘Wizards of Oz’, the prospect of collaborating again was immediately inspiring.
Michael talked to me about the idea of doing some form of ‘digital capture’ for the basis of the Broken Bones video. I was intrigued. We tried to make it work at a studio in France after us both had been at Cannes Film Festival in 2014, but unfortunately had to reconsider as that studio was closed for renovations.
The only other place that offered the technology he wanted was in Tokyo. Coincidentally I was going to be in Tokyo to work on the film ‘Equals’ in mid-2014. Michael flew over and we booked time in the ‘4D Views’ studio.
It was a fascinating process that required me to perform the song in a green screen stage with 48 digital cameras all around and above me. Michael was then able to utilise and change the image of me anyway he wanted.
After then filming some forest footage back in Melbourne, Michael waved his magic VFX wand and created this video - a mysterious and evocative journey that takes the song to a whole new emotional level.
I’m really thrilled with this clip and hope you are too!
Thanks again Michael – you’re a genius.
