A personal message from Steve Barakatt, C.Q. :

Some performances go far beyond music.

Performing Lullaby, The UNICEF Anthem in Cuba was not simply about playing before an audience. It was about feeling, in a profound way, the soul of a country, the dignity of its people, and the deeper purpose that music can serve in our world.

Cuba has offered so much to humanity through its culture, its resilience, and its extraordinary contribution to the world’s musical heritage. Its artistic legacy is a treasure that must be honoured, protected, and passed on to future generations.

For an artist, there are rare moments when a concert becomes something greater than a performance. It becomes an act of connection. A moment of shared humanity. A reminder that music is not only here to entertain, but also to elevate, to unite, and to safeguard the values that define our common human dignity.

As a UNICEF advocate, this meaning resonates deeply with me. I have always believed that music can carry a message far beyond words — a message of compassion, hope, peace, and respect for every child, every family, and every people whose story and heritage deserve to endure.

I will always carry this moment in my heart as a reminder that the true mission of music is to serve humanity, to honour the soul of a people, and to help preserve what is most precious in the human spirit for the next generation.

Presented as part of the Néoréalité World Tour at the Basilica de San Francisco de Asís, Havana, this concert brought together two nations through mutual respect, friendship, and a shared belief in the universal language of music. I was deeply honoured to perform alongside the renowned Cuban ensemble Camerata Romeu, under the direction of Maestra Zenaida Romeu, with the participation of the children’s choirs Sueño Diminuto and Lucecita, directed by Professor Carmen Rosa López.

This historic concert took place on November 13, 2025, to mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Cuba.
