'You Have Placed A Chill in My Heart' was the fourth and highest charting single from Savage, Eurythmics sixth album, released in 1987. Every video from this album was art. You could not take your eyes off Annie Lennox.

Scotland has produced many fine female artists and songwriters, but Annie is my favourite. A classically trained Flautist and Pianist - studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, no less - Lennox is the whole package: musician, songwriter, artist, total legend. I love her.

I fell in love with Savage around the same time I discovered Joni Mitchell, and I wanted to reimagine 'You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart' as a lost Joni Mitchell bop, if such a thing exists.

My forthcoming Liverpool sold out within a few days when it went on sale a few months ago, so sorry if you missed out on tickets. It's been a while since I last played a show in the city.Blackbird was the first song I thought of covering for this project - for many reasons. It is possibly the greatest song ever written, and Paul McCartney is God, so there's that. But it's also because nothing has ever floored me like hearing The Beatles' White Album for the first time (shamefully late in my teenage years). That album changed my life.

It became an obsession. I had to learn every song, on every instrument I could figure out, and it taught me practically everything I know about how records fit together. (And I didn't have to pay it any tuition fees.)There are so many songs from it I might have chosen - 'Sexy Sadie', with one of my favourite bass parts of all time, or 'Birthday', the song I have to listen to every year on my birthday, or... you get the picture. But for me, 'Blackbird' is THE song. It's the song that every time I play I feel like God is in the room; the God of music, the God of everything, who knows. It just makes me feel like there will always be goodness in the world and it will always win out in the end. We are all, in the end, just waiting for that moment to arise.
