I’d gone through a really difficult period of my life and thought maybe I wouldn’t make any more records for a long time. It just didn’t appeal, and I didn’t feel good about performing.

Moving to Venice Beach, California rejuvenated me. Driving down PCH got me listening to Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac again, and working with Producer Tony Hoffer was a longtime dream come true.

I would drive home from Tony’s studio in :Highland Park in East LA to Venice Beach in the wee hours after our sessions, and catch the magical nightscape of skyscrapers, and I knew I was ready to go again - much sooner than I had expected.

And of course it turned out that KIN was just the beginning of a 7 year trilogy adventure…

I called it this name for the family we build as music lovers, the chosen family that come on the road, the familiar faces in the crowd, and the new ones coming for the first time, all playing equal parts in the cosmic nature of music.

Thank you so much for all your beautiful comments about the album on its 10th anniversary, and a big thank you to Gosha Levochkin for the amazing album art, which to me spoke of the Natural World around you cheering you on and sending signs that you are on the right path.
